When to Call an Emergency Plumber

If you’re facing any of the following issues at your home or business, it’s time to call our plumbers. Act fast to limit health hazards and structural damage to your property!

Burst Pipes

A burst pipe can flood your home, causing extensive water damage and even structural issues. Shut off your water supply and call our plumbers immediately.

Overflowing Toilets

Overflowing toilets can quickly flood your bathroom and create a sanitation hazard. Turn the shutoff valve behind the toilet while you wait for help to arrive.

Sewer Line Backups

Raw sewage backing up into your sinks, tubs, and/or toilets is a serious health hazard. Problems with sewer lines require immediate professional attention.

Water Heater Failures

If your water heater suddenly stops working, especially in colder months, it can be more than an inconvenience. There could be a risk of leaks, gas issues, or electrical problems.

Multiple or Severely Clogged Drains

Most clogs are routine, but if a blocked drain is causing flooding in your home or business or multiple drains are backed up, you need professional plumbing help.

Emergency Plumbing FAQs

Our best advice during a plumbing emergency is not to panic. Simply call our team at (850) 252-8249, and a master plumber will be there promptly. While you wait, these FAQs may help you limit the extent of the damage!

Immediately noticeable signs that a pipe has burst include:

  • Sudden water leaks or flooding around ceilings, walls, floors, or under sinks
  • A drastic drop or complete loss of water pressure
  • Discolored or dirty water
  • The sound of running water, hissing, or gurgling

Sometimes, leaks don’t show up right away. You should also call our team if you notice an unexpected increase in your water bill, water stains, musty odors, wet spots, or pools of water along pipes.

First, shut off the water supply to the toilet. The water supply valve is usually located behind the toilet, near the wall—it’s most often a silver, football-shaped knob. Turn it clockwise to shut it off.

Then, call Emerald Bay Plumbing. If possible, try to put down towels or mop up any water on the floor to limit damage to the property while you wait for help to arrive.

In the Florida panhandle, the main water shutoff valve is typically located outside the home. Here are some common places to check:

  • Near the water meter: Usually located on the side of your house or in an underground box near the street. Look for a round or rectangular metal cover, which might be labeled “water meter” or “water shut-off.”
  • Close to where the water line enters the home: The main water line enters your home from the street, and the shutoff valve is usually located near this entry point.
  • In a garage or mechanical room: If your home is built on a slab, the valve might be located in the garage, near the water heater, or in a utility area.

Most modern homes have a ball valve with a lever handle. To turn it off, simply turn the lever a quarter turn (90°) so it is perpendicular to the pipe (horizontal). If your home has a gate valve, turn the wheel clockwise (to the right) as far as it will go to shut off the water completely.
