Toilet Troubleshooting & FAQs

Whether you’re an avid DIYer or totally new to plumbing, Emerald Bay Plumbing is your go-to resource. We’re here to help you navigate toilet issues by providing expert advice and responding quickly to your call. No job is too big or too small!

A running toilet is usually caused by one of three things: a faulty flapper, problems with the fill valve (which controls the water level in the tank), or issues with the float (which signals the fill valve to stop the water flow). Check out our Plumbing Tips for ways to diagnose this issue at home, or simply contact our team for a quick, reliable fix!

First, make sure you have a flange plunger, which is specifically designed for toilets. It should have a cup-shaped head with an extra flap that creates a better seal around the drain opening.

Place the plunger head over the drain opening to create a tight seal, then vigorously push and pull the plunger up and down. Continue until the water starts to drain. Once it does, flush the toilet to see if the clog has been cleared.

If the water level is too high and would risk a spill, wait until it goes down before you attempt plunging. If the water level doesn’t drop or plunging doesn’t solve the issue, contact Emerald Bay Plumbing for expert assistance!

If your toilet is overflowing, shutting off the water can save you a lot of waste and property damage. Look for a football-shaped knob on the wall behind your toilet. Turn it clockwise to stop the water supply to the tank.
