A running toilet is usually caused by an issue inside the tank. The most common culprits include:
- Faulty flapper: The rubber flapper may not be sealing properly, allowing water to continuously leak into the bowl.
- Chain issues: If the flapper chain is too long or too short, it can prevent the flapper from closing correctly.
- Fill valve problems: A malfunctioning fill valve may not shut off properly, causing water to keep flowing into the tank.
- Overflow tube issues: If the water level is set too high, it may continuously drain into the overflow tube.
Replacing the faulty part or adjusting the water level usually solves the problem. If the issue persists, we can inspect for hidden leaks or worn-out components.
A toilet bubbling when another fixture is used is often a sign of a drainage or venting issue. If your plumbing system isn’t properly vented, air can become trapped in the pipes, leading to pressure imbalances that cause bubbling.
A partial clog in the sewer line may also force air back up through the toilet. If this happens frequently, our plumbers can inspect the system to determine whether the vent pipe needs cleaning or if a blockage needs to be removed.
Cloudy or milky-looking tap water is usually caused by trapped air bubbles or high mineral content. Common causes include:
- Air in the water supply: Small air bubbles can form when water pressure changes, creating a cloudy appearance that clears up after a few seconds.
- Hard water minerals: High levels of calcium and magnesium can cause water to appear cloudy, especially in areas with hard water like Inlet Beach.
- Sediment or pipe corrosion: Older pipes may release small particles into the water, creating temporary discoloration.
Running the tap for a few minutes can help determine if the cloudiness is due to air or sediment. If the issue persists, a water quality test may be needed.
Loose pipes, excessive water pressure, or water hammer can cause pipes to shake or rattle when water flows through them. Water hammer occurs when fast-moving water suddenly stops, creating a shockwave that causes pipes to vibrate. Installing a water hammer arrestor or securing loose pipes with clamps can help eliminate the noise.
If high water pressure is the cause, our team can adjust the pressure regulator to prevent damage to your plumbing system.
Popping, rumbling, or banging noises from your water heater are usually caused by sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. When sediment hardens, it traps water beneath it, creating steam bubbles that burst and cause noise. Flushing the tank regularly can help prevent this issue.
If the sound continues, it may indicate that the heating element is failing or that excessive sediment buildup has damaged the tank, requiring a professional inspection from our team.
